The best Claude skills on GitHub, by real install counts

Rankings

"Best" lists are usually someone's bookmarks. This one is ranked by real install counts — the numbers the skills CLI reports, updated several times a day in our skills directory.

What the data says

The most-installed skills cluster into four jobs:

Discovery and meta-skills. Skills that help Claude find and manage other skills consistently top the chart — install one and your agent can extend itself.

Frontend and design. Skills encoding real design taste (spacing, typography, layout systems) are the breakout category. The gap between "AI-generated UI" and "designed UI" is exactly what these close.

Code quality. Review, debugging and testing skills — the daily drivers. They turn a generic agent into one that reviews like a senior engineer.

Documents. PDF generation, spreadsheets, slide decks — the office-work layer, including several first-party skills from Anthropic.

For researchers and writers

Skills that structure research (extract → verify → synthesize with citations) and writing skills that enforce a style guide rank high with non-engineering users — a fast-growing slice of the install base.

How to choose

  • Sort by installs — sustained adoption is the strongest quality signal that exists for a text file.
  • Check last-push — a skill maintained this month beats an identical one frozen for a year.
  • Read the SKILL.md — it's right on the listing page. If the instructions look sloppy, the outputs will be too.
  • Browse the live ranking: all skills, sorted by installs. Numbers update automatically; no editorial thumb on the scale.
